We checked in with textile designer Kerry Bower who spoke to us about The Preston Rose collection and her creative process and inspirations.
“Colour inspiration is always the foundation in developing each new range. Traditionally Raine & Humble has always worked with neutral tones as the base. The organic look of natural cotton and linen in tones of ivory through to taupe form the base of all of our printed designs.”
“While in the past I’ve experimented with some brighter colours, my recent introduction to natural plant dying has definitely influenced my current colour choices. The process has both fascinated and inspired me. Our Australian eucalyptus species have featured a lot in my experiments, using the leaves, bark and gum nuts to produce natural colours from deep reds to the bright yellows and every shade in between.”
“Milo and I have collected many nuts and leaves on our morning walks. This particular species when modified with soda ash and iron, gave me a strong mustard colour and a beautiful rich olive green. These colours add a nice depth and warmth to the dusty pink colour that has dominated our last two ranges plus helps give more of an edge to our pretty floral prints.”
